travel takeaways

I want to share some of my key takeaways on our recent travel journey across the country.

1) Don't delay. Sometimes we can become a bit passive in handling matters that need to be handled. They aren't always urgent matters, but they shouldn't be delayed. You'll spend more time dwelling on what you need to do vs. just actually doing it. Whether it's sending a text message to someone you've been thinking about or whether it's sitting down to meal plan + map out your finances, push past the excuses and GO DO ITTTTT :)

2) Decide in advance how you will show up. During our 3 week journey, I had to be very intentional about how I showed up in the word of God. It's very easy to go into a 'drifting' mode where you kind of coast by without truly being in the word, but I hate being in that state so much. I am constantly hungry for the word of God- because it satisfies my soul. So because I know that I hate falling into a lack of nourishment from the word of God, I knew that I had to be decided in advance. Regardless of what state we were in or who I was surrounded by for entertainment purposes, I had to be decided ahead of time that nothing was more important than commiting my time, mind, and soul to being in the word for a set period of time everyday. I believe this principle applies to all areas of life. When you can decide ahead of time of how you show up, you really take charge of your day vs letting the day pass you by aimlessly. Practical takeaway: spend 20 minutes writing a list of non-negotiables that you desire for your days.

3) Desperation will drive you, and this is not always a bad thing. But let's look at what happens when you are desperate: you will do anything for relief so you look for short term fixes, you exhaust your energy, and you may move hastily. However, there are times when desperation will drive you to a great dependency on God. It becomes a point of humility and a recognition that it's either "God or bust" and there's no other way out, through, or around without depending on God. Choose your desperation.

Which one of these stuck out to you the most? Let's chat about it!
