what is warfare?

There is a very real spiritual realm. And whether you believe in it or not, it influences your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and even your circumstances.

We live in a culture that demands proof. If it can't be touched, measured, or tested, it must not be real. We trust MRIs and lab results more than spiritual discernment. But not everything invisible is imaginary.

Wind is invisible, but you see its effects. Gravity can't be seen, but it holds everything in place. The same is true of the spirit realm. You see the patterns. You sense the shifts.

Still, many avoid talking about warfare because:

  • It feels weird or superstitious

  • We've seen it misused or misunderstood

  • It forces us to face uncomfortable truths

  • It means admitting we might not be fully in control

But ignoring it doesn't make it go away. It just keeps us vulnerable.

This was my wake-up call:

Not long after I gave my life to Jesus, I was eager to share the Gospel. In my zeal, I tried to witness to a friend who was deep into witchcraft and astral projection. I didn’t yet understand the weight of what they were practicing.

Soon after, strange things began happening. In the midnight hours, I heard footsteps in my home—but no one was there. I felt watched. Oppressed. A friend stayed the night in my home and experienced it too.

Then came the patterns: every October (the month my dad passed), things got chaotic. My finances would crash. My lights flickered. I got into two separate car accidents in two different Octobers.

Eventually, God revealed that this friend had a friend that been astral projecting into my home. They were reporting what they saw to the kingdom of darkness. And it was all attached to a familiar spirit. There was once a family member had opened the door even further by visiting a psychic years earlier. That decision gave the enemy legal access to our family line.

It wasn't just spooky or weird. It was spiritual.

Spiritual warfare isn't always dramatic. Sometimes, it's subtle:

  • Sudden confusion or brain fog

  • Patterns of miscommunication in relationships

  • Emotional heaviness out of nowhere

  • Blocked opportunities right before breakthrough

  • Nightmares or inability to sleep

Not everything is warfare. But not everything is "just life," either.

Discernment helps you know the difference and I am convinced people have believed myths about the enemy that keep them unaware.

Myth 1: The devil is a metaphor or Hollywood character.
Truth: Satan is real, and Jesus referred to him plainly (John 10:10).

Myth 2: If you don't believe in the enemy, he can't touch you.
Truth: Being unaware makes you more vulnerable (1 Peter 5:8).

Myth 3: Only extreme cases involve demons.
Truth: The enemy works through subtle deception and oppression (2 Corinthians 11:14).

Myth 4: Christians can't be affected if they love Jesus.
Truth: Christians can have open doors through sin, trauma, or generational iniquity (Ephesians 4:27).

Myth 5: Talking about this stuff is fear-based.
Truth: Awareness leads to freedom (John 8:32).

However, Jesus didn’t leave us powerless:

“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.” — Luke 10:19

The moment you recognize there’s a battle, you can stop fighting blindly. You can close doors, break patterns, and walk in the freedom Jesus paid for.

If talking about the enemy makes you uncomfortable, it might be because your spirit knows it’s real. But fear isn't the goal here. Freedom is.

You weren’t created to live confused or reactive. You were created to live alert, rooted in truth, and walking in spiritual authority.

So if you're sensing resistance, seeing patterns, or feeling stuck—pause and ask the Holy Spirit: "Is this just life, or is this warfare?"

Because what you can't see might be what's been holding you back.

much love,

jordyn
